Barod Research

We are a team of people with autism and or a learning disability.
We call ourselves activist researchers.
For us activist researchers means making sure everything we work on makes our and our peers lives better.
In research we believe in nothing about us without us.
We think disabled people should lead research about us.
We think disabled researchers should coproduce social research.

What we do

Our research team are a group of people with autism and learning disability who work with academics and others to do research that has a practical impact on the lives of us and our peers. Simon Rice, Simon Richards and Claudia Magwood have all been published a number of times. The most recent work was humanising healthcare
The team review papers before publication for journals and have written response papers published in British Journal of Learning Disabilities.
The team have supported researchers especially at PHD level to make their selection, consent, ethics and interview process both accessible and appropriate for the groups they are looking to work with, most recently working with a researcher to better understand how people with a learning disability use language around gender prior to them finalising their research submission to ethics.
We have also run consultation events for public and voluntary sector clients who want to talk to people with autism and or a learning disability about issues that impact them. We have spoken at conferences and held workshops.
